How to employ foreign maid

I have been getting this question on how to get a maid. What is the steps and procedures and most importantly, how much did you pay for it?

Since I still keep the e-mail given by the "agent" that processed my application, for those of you who are shy enough to call the Immigration Department or afraid to approach the foreign worker agency.. consider yourselves lucky. Here are the step by step procedures to apply for a foreign maid. The info is valid as of October 2008. I'm not sure what changed since the "economic downturn".

Still confused? I think you are. Let's try again.

Step 1 should be simple enough right? If you can't manage this, I doubt you can manage maid of your own lah my friend.

Now Step 2 is much more complicated. Very very much more I tell you.

First and foremost, you need to have a candidate for maid. Someone that maybe the agent in the foreign country has it, or your relatives or friends can recommend one for you.
Next the candidate must go for a medical check up. The clinic must be authorized by the foreign country Immigration office to perform the medical check up. If not.. the medical certificate/document is not valid.
With the medical check up results, the candidate then has to go to apply for a passport. In order for him/her to do that, an interview process will be done.
Once the passport is done, get the candidate or the agent to courier the medical check up documents (original) and the photocopy of the passport.
Once you've received the documents, then only you can proceed to Step 2 in the table above.

At the end of Step 2, you are supposed to have
:
i) RESIT PEMBAYARAN **
ii) PERMOHONAN PAS LAWATAN KERJA SEMENTARA **
iii) PERMOHONAN PAS LAWATAN KERJA SEMENTARA - Salinan Majikan**

These documents need to be sent to the candidate/ agent in the foreign country. The documents will be used to apply for working permit. By now I believe you've spent RM470 in Malaysia. Not to mention the cost incurred in the foreign country; medical check up, passport, transport etc.

Once the candidate has got his/her working permit, you may now arrange for flight ticket. Make sure you bring all the needed documents to pick up the maid at the airport. Wear proper attire.

If you guys manage to get to this stage, congratulations! No more cleaning the toilet and hand wash your laundry anymore. But don't be too happy yet. In order for the maid to work legally here in Malaysia, the person must be certified medically here by FOMEMA. Follow Step 3 for this. Should be simple enough. It must be done within 30 days after the maid arrives Malaysia. Once FOMEMA cleared their part, you need to bring the maid's passport to the Immigration Office for sticker placement. Refer the end of Step 3.

So there you go. Anymore questions? I wish you all the best for your maid applications. May you all get the reliable ones and once you do treat him/her properly. My father always reminds me, the maid is your helper, not your slave. They should only be asked to do work that you are willing to do.

Thanks and best regards...

What to do after Earth Hour

These were all done on the 21st of March 2009. One week after Arianna turns 3 years old.

We woke up quite early that day jst to go to Sungai Buloh. To be exact, Hospital Sungai Buloh. From the NSE, take the Hospital Sungai Buloh exit. Head towards Sungai Buloh, a few hundreds meter from the toll plaza, they are few nursery lined up for you to shop for "Earth Hour" stuffs. Hehe...

We bought a few plants, 6 bags of "tanah campur" / mixed soil, 2kg of chicken shit fertilizer, 5 packs of vegetable seeds and 3 pots. Total damage? Have to see the receipt lah.. forgot already.

We started gardening right after we reached home. Can I do gardening without my loyal assistant, Arianna? I dont think so. Luckily that my gardening tools come in a set of 3. Kalau 1 je? Jenuh berebut.

The idea is to salvage a few plants from the existing garden. Among them are pokok limau, pandan and pokok daun kari.

"Orang tua-tua" have their own "petua" and "pantang larang" on planting plants. The time of the day, how you treat the plants, the pots, the soil and et cetera. The famous one would be.. tangan panas. People with "tangan panas" or hot hands, has less chance to become a successful planter. There will be something wrong with the tree, either it will not grow and die, or will not produce any fruits. So we'll just have to see ... tangan apa kah kami ni?

Our small garden.

The mint and limau purut tree are the ones we bought from the nursery. We also planted chilly seeds, kacang buncis and sawi. I'll post an update on their progress soon.

Earth Hour 2009

This was our contribution to support Earth Hour 2009. Ours lasted for 55 minutes as by 9.25pm I could not see what am I eating in the bowl of porridge that Wifey prepared in the well lit kitchen :P

I did switch on the TV though. Just to watch National Geographic Channel which "suspended" their shows, by showing the how to save the earth stuffs and the history of the Earth Hour "gimmick". It started off in Sydney in year 2007.. just that one city. In year 2008, 50 countries participated and estimated 50 million people switched of their lights for that one hour that year. And last night, it's estimated that 1 billion people took the challenge to live in the dark for 1 hour.

Prior to this event, while the "celebrities" are promoting Earth Hour on the TV I did catch a few columns in the newspapers with people giving negative comments on this small gesture. Gimmick by WWF lah...we signed the Kyoto Protocol but even the USA did not sign it... padam lampu satu jam apa boleh dapat.. Sigh. These are whinners who always blame it on the others.. how to reduce CO2, public transport in Malaysia sucks! If I recycle 1 piece of paper or 1 soda can, apa effect dia oi! Kita padam lampu kat rumah.. kat ofis tu lampu pasang 24 jam.. aircond pasang 24jam... earth hour jadahnya? But if the air-cond breaks down in the office, these are the people who will shout out .. company public listed.. air cond pon tak mampu nak servis ke???WTF!!! For this kind of human being, may I suggest that you masturbate less.. kurang sikit mandi wajib.. save water. And hopefully by doing it less your brain might function better.

Out of Bread Flour

I am still not giving up in baking the perfect bread. It's just that we are out of flour. The ones I baked before turn out to have extra crispy crust. Hehe....

But the crust is nice to have it with jam :)

Gardening Tools

This is supposed to be blogged last month .. around 17th of February. One thing that I am excited about when moving to a landed house is the ability to do gardening. I wanted to do it while we were living in the apartment but Wifey was always against it. She would say, wait till we move out to a landed house. That is one out of her many tactics to make me buy a landed house.

So now here are my newly purchased gardening tools. It costs RM25 for the set of 3 tools which I do not know what they are called... neither in English or Malay. The cangkul is RM20. So with RM 45...
you get all this! The first thing to plant on our precious land is the grass. :)

We chose the Philippine Grass as it is claimed to be easy to maintain and it resembles the carpet grass. It costs Rm2.00 per 2x1 sqft. We bought it at the One Garden Solution in Glenmarie. They say we can get it at RM1.70 - 1.80 if we get it in Sungai Buloh.

Now the grass in the front yard is done. I'll post pictures of it later. Next project... Projek Pertanian Belakang Rumah!

Enjoy the weekend!

Disney On Ice 20090322

Last Sunday Wifey treated us to watch Disney On Ice. It should be considered as Arianna's birthday present since we did not get any for her. Wifey had to pay RM115 for Arianna's ticket because she turned 3. Kids below that age admit free.

Arianna wore her birthday dress that day. The Disney On Ice "theme" this time is Princess Wishes. So Arianna did not look out of place as every female, kids and adults are wearing "princess-sy" costumes. Arianna is a bit under dress I think :P

The hosts for the show are none other than Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Goofy was there too. They performed a few short stories of Alladin, Cinderella, Beauty and The Beast, Sleeping Beauty, Little Mermaid and ... Mulan. Arianna enjoyed relating the show with her story books at home. The parents could not wait for the show to be over.. hahah.. berapa banyak princess lagi nak kuar ni?!

Arianna really enjoyed the show. Thank you Ibu for taking us there :) We are supposed to go to Putrajaya later that day to see the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta but Arianna was down with fever. Both Arianna and Wildan are sick this week. Hope they'll get better soon...

Pay Day

It is pay day today. And this month most of us "makan gaji" people will be getting the year 2008 performance bonus. Pity me, I am outsourced to an American MNC. Most them are taking the increament freeze approach and slashing the bonus to half. It's bad enough that I'm only entitled for half of the bonus as I joined the company in July 2008, they slashed that to half some more.

Wifey is lucky enough to be getting the average performance of 3 despite of her almost 1 year absent from work last year while carrying Wildan.

Friends? One of them who's supposed to be the richest among us for his title of a Pilot, somehow is jobless for quite sometime now. The Kristal employee of 2005 and Best Consultant 2007 decided to become a student. The actor/engineer is diagnosed with mental illness last year due to work stress. I doubt he's getting a performance 4 or 5 for 2008. Our movie reviewer cum shift engineer same as I am could be getting more... the others I have no news from them. We did not have a chance to meet during Arianna's birthday because they did not come.

So we are left with the Executive of The Year to treat us this year. I'm up for ribs.. Tony Roma's, Las Carretas or Williams... up to you. Thanks dude...haha

Happy Permanent EU

I'll be working on permanent European time shift for the next 4 weeks. That is from 3pm to 12am from Monday to Friday. Bad thing is, I won't be spending time with Wifey for 1 month. The good thing is I will have the same off days as Wifey...

Happy 3rd Birthday Arianna 20090315

When it comes to Arianna's birthday, it is a must to celebrate. Last year we thought of having just a small get-together but ended up with my parents throwing a big party with caterers, canopies and invited all of our extended families.

This year as we moved in to the new house, it is a good chance for us to invite everybody for a housewarming + birthday party. We started off the event with Yasin, tahlil and doa selamat. Alhamdulillah.. Thanks to my parents and Pak Ndak to make it happen.

After that it's party time for Arianna and friends. For the adults we catered nasi tomato and roti jala. My mum prepared mee kari. Wifey made deserts which I did not have the chance to taste. I did not even tasted Arianna's birthday cake. My mum-in-law brought a few types of kuih talam. As far as food is concerned, I think we ordered more than enough.

As usual, I will have to make up excuses for not taking enough pictures during this event. There are things that I'll take note next time when I organize this kind of events. For example, hire a photographer!

This time we ordered the cake from Secret Recipe. Wifey likes the Chocolate Moist Cake so much. We had it during Arianna's first birthday. We learnt something from that function that is to keep the cake outside (of the fridge) overnight before serving. By doing this the cake will be moist-er and tastes better.

Arianna has been reciting this moment for days before the event. She'll sing the Happy Birthday song to herself and one day before the event she was already restless about the birthday cake and keep on asking for it from her Ibu. I can see that see is so proud to have this event of blowing the candles.

And not so happy when someone else blew the moments away!

We even ordered Goodies Bags for this function. So just that you can imagine how much Wifey spent on the event. Hehe..

At around 5pm, the function is basically over. But as usual my dear friend Faiz from RMC will come half and hour after we finished moving the food into the kitchen. Too much punctual moments during the school days I guess.

Farul stayed till late night as he is single after sending Jue and Alyya back to their hometown. Thanks to him for accompanying Arianna playing her latest collections of toys.

Thanks to everybody for making Arianna's 3rd Birthday a memorable one. For a three year old, she has accomplished so much. She can now speak in two languages, Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia. She has been to places where even a 50 year old has not set foot on. She recovered from a neurological condition that even her parents never had before. As the popular saying goes, selagi nyawa dikandung badan, her parents will try their best to keep Arianna's life as full as possible. So that she can live her name, Arianna - Full of Life.

(20 years to come, bile Arianna baca posting ni.. sure die kata.. "poyo betul bapak aku ni!")

p/s: Hah Ephol... ko tak baca post ni sampai abes siap... aku kutuk ko!
